Limitless

Limitless (Bradley Cooper, Abby Cornish, Robert De Niro) features a down-on-his-luck writer (Cooper) who discovers a top-secret nootropic drug that increases his focus, his learning curve and his ability to read social cues and situations.  I think it would be incredible to tap into the surplus of unused neurons and synapses (not brain matter!) in order to use my time more efficiently, but I don't think I would want to have the traits permanently; I feel like I would become very anxious/paranoid as a result of the increased stimuli.

What would do if you could remember anything and everything you've ever seen, felt, heard or read? Would you take a drug that would make you, in a sense, super human? How would you use your newfound power if you did?

Ten on Tuesday: Movies

Whenever my dad and I watch particular movies, he'll tell me about his Island Top 10 movie list. (You know what I'm talking about, right?) Most of his list includes classics from the 1950s and movies like Animal House. If I happened to be stuck on an island with a comfy chair and a television that could play DVDs, I would hope that these movies would be available to me (in no particular order):

3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy, extended editions of 1, 2, 3

As you can plainly see, I love movies about finding true love, overcoming obstacles, being true to yourself and supporting others. Oh, I'm such a sap. What's on your Island Top 10?

Until next time,

PS - If you haven't had the chance to see In Time, starring Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake, you should hop on your bike or whatever and scoot on down to your nearest cineplex. I thought it was really well done. This movie really puts the importance of time into perspective. Let's all sieze the day more often!

PSS - Did you know that the phrase carpe diem is actually part of the longer phrase carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero. The latter means "Seize the Day, putting as little trust as possible in the future." It's just something to think about.

Manic Monday

I didn't realize until about an hour ago that it is in fact Monday. I've felt very up and down today for, what seems to be, no reason. But today is almost over, so here's to hoping that I will feel better tomorrow.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to catch the movie Contagion (hehe... see what I did there?). Basically, it was a big Public Service Announcement to people about safe food handling and hand washing standards. It's scary to think something so simple could potentially doom the world. While I was at the movie, it wasn't difficult to notice the amount of people present. The theatre was absolutely packed; I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the release date of the movie, the day/time we went (Sunday, 4pm) or that it was in fact 9/11. Either way, everyone wanted to escape reality with a movie... about what could be our reality. Definitely not a happy movie, although it did have it's heartwarming moments. Also, the movie didn't wrap up all the plot lines it had going and there were a lot of unnecessary situations. Overall, I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.
